It is now very much official that Bahumi Madisakwane and Keabetswe “KB” Motsilanyane will play the role of Lebo Mathosa on Dream: The Lebo Mathosa Story that will premiere on BET Africa (DSTV channel 129) on Wednesday, 6 November.
So we are about two weeks away from the six part biopic and the streets are talking.
24 Year old Bahumi who is the daughter of Somizi Mhlongo and Palesa Madisakwane has been met by a negative reception since the announcement that she will play a younger Lebo Mathosa. With many critics claiming she only got the role because of her parents.
Bahumi’s last acting role was on SABC2’s telenovela Keeping Score.
So this role could definitely be a career defining role considering the iconic status of Lebo Mathosa.
According to the reports Bahumi claims that she never told her father that she was going to audition for the role all the way back in March 2019.
According to a Sowetan Live article Bahumi had auditioned to play the older Lebo Mathosa. She initially wanted to audition for the younger role, but her age meant she had to audition for the older role.
To her surprise she was cast as the younger Lebo Mathosa. If we could venture a guess we would say it was divine intervention maybe.
Bahumi does seem to be working hard on her on portraying the role perfectly. She has been researching and practising her choreography.
Actress and singer KB who has met Lebo Mathosa before recalls Lebo Mathosa also wrote a verse for her when she was a member of the band Crowded Crew.
KB who will playing the role of an adult Lebo said she can sing, dance and act but this will be the first time where she would have to do all 3 at the same. She does seem to be welcoming the challenge.
Both KB and Bahumi seem very motivated to tell a Lebo Mathosa story that will be undoubtedly worth watching.
