Second Season Of Queen Sono Cancelled

Some bad news for the first Netflix Original African series fans as Queen Sono staring Pearl Thusi and Vuyo Dabula has been cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic challenges.

Many fans of the series were eagerly waiting for the second season ever since around April this year news broke that season two was given the green light.

Unfortunately, due to the trying times during the pandemic it seems as though those plans have been scrapped.

A Netflix spokesperson said the following about the decision to cancel season 2.

“We’ve made the difficult decision not to move forward with season 2 of Queen Sono. We are incredibly proud of the Diprente team for sharing their audacious vision and bringing it to life with Netlflix. A huge thank you to our fans across the world for the love shared for our first African Original series. Netflix is also grateful to the amazing efforts shown by the cast and crew for their stellar efforts in creating this show for our members around the world. We’ll continue to work closely with South Africa’s creative industry to keep producing more compelling ‘Made-in-South Africa’ stories.”

Director of the series Kagiso Lediga also commented on the difficulty that the production faced.

“We wrote a beautiful story that spanned the continent but unfortunately could not be executed in these current trying times,” he said.

Pearl Thusi who played the lead role also had some positive things to say about the show.

“It’s so incredible that we as a team had a lifetime opportunity to make history together as there will never be another ‘first’ African Netflix Original Series. I am proud of the work we did, but everything happens for a reason. I am excited about what the future holds.”

Hopefully, the future does not hold more of those Lays chips she is promoting as those are awful.

The ads are cute and tasteful unfortunately the chips are not.

When it comes to Vuyo Dabula and the reports that came out about him leaving his Generations: The Legacy character of Gadiffi for Queen Sono. For now, there is no statement from him as to where his future lies after the news of Queen Sono being cancelled.

According to a Daily Sun article, the producers of Generations: The Legacy gave him an ultimatum for him to choose between the soap opera or Queen Sono. He chose Queen Sono and now the series is cancelled.

Many believe the soap opera will take him back as he is a very talented actor whose character is much loved by many fans.
