The document was given out as part of court papers on Tuesday, but later withdrawn.
A confidential National Prosecuting Authority document which has been said is authentic, has linked Senzo Meyiwa’s girlfriend Kelly Khumalo to a suspect in Senzo Meyiwa’s murder.
According to TimesLive a point 6 of the document, a letter from the NPA to the investigating officer in the case, Col Bongani Gininda, instructs police: “Cellphone records of Ms. Kelly Khumalo indicating her communication with the accused must be obtained, as previously indicated.”
This is after the five suspects denied being accused of the murder, one of the accused having been in prison already “We didn’t do it,” the five Meyiwa murder-accused refused to step into the dock.
Their argument was they did not commit the crime and police were using them to protect those actually responsible for killing Meyiwa.
One of the suspects claimed they were arrested back in August while another has told the court they want the media present to capture what he calls the thuggery in this murder case.
Suspect number four said he didn’t see the need for a lawyer because he didn’t kill the Bafana captain.
Senzo Mayiwa’s family believe his murder may have been premeditated.
Meyiwa was killed at Khumalo’s mother’s home in Vosloorus in Ekurhuleni six years ago.
According to TimesLive, Attempts to get comment from Kelly Khumalo via phone and text message were unsuccessful. The police did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
